All of Me

Sometimes the Bible seems to refer to us humans as having two parts; at other times it seems as though we may have three or even four parts (Heb. 4:12; Deut. 6:5; Mark 12:30). If you examine scripture closely it seems as though each time it is describing the same “pie” just using different terms. If my entire being is represented in that pie, then no matter how you slice the pie, you are still talking about some aspect of my being which when totaled all up makes me. Cut the pie in half and you have the material and the immaterial. After examining scripture, using the material/immaterial concept would be my preferred method of “slicing the pie” – that being said with all due respect to the people that are body, soul, and spirit devotees. One thing that cannot be denied is that the material consists of multiple parts (finger, toes, arms and legs etc); is seems that there may be that multidimensional aspect to the immaterial as well. The problem is that we cannot see, feel, hear, or in any quantifiable way measure the immaterial. Yet we know that part of us exists. We know this by an extraordinary sense of our own person, from personal experiences with other people, and by testimony of many parts of Scripture.
We need to take account of the fact that we can be responsible for, clean up, and take account of the physical person.
Is there anything we can do about the immaterial?
The Bible says no, but it also says yes. No, you cannot clean yourself up and make yourself presentable to God for purposes of salvation. I am saved by God’s grace, through His gift of faith, and nothing else.
Yes, by His power, I can grow and mature spiritually. In Him, I can be more than I could have ever accomplished on my own. It comes by studying His word, prayer, and self-reflection. But more than anything else, it comes by us yielding ourselves to the work of God’s Spirit in our lives.
May God bless you and keep you safe in His loving arms.
Enjoy His blessings in your life by yielding yourself to the work of the Spirit!!!!!
