Are You Listening?

My mother used to ask me a simple question. Simple, yet profound! “Are you listening to what I am saying, or are you just hearing the words?” Most of the time, I was just hearing the words. Make no mistake, I heard the words, and I understood their meaning; but I already had my own agenda that was not going to be easily changed by mere words (wise or not).
I believe God is asking us the same question today, “are you listening…” We need to answer God truthfully. Let’s go ahead and get it out in the open; is it going to be our way or His? If we choose to keep our own agenda and do things our own way, then we are doomed for failure. We are up against a worthy adversary that shows no mercy, the devil. If we do things our way, then we are turning down God’s help. It is as if we are walking through the desert and have found a stream of life giving water, but refuse to drink from the stream. We need to listen to God. With God’s truth, righteousness and peace we can win the race and keep the faith.
