Watch For What Works
1 Peter 5:2-7
Peter says to the elders… "Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away. Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."
The best that I can possibly hope for, is to be an example to you of the kind of life that we should live in Christ. I cannot make you study God’s Word, nor can I make you grow up in Christ. Each of us can grow older without growing up. Have you ever seen a 35 year old baby? It isn’t a pretty picture. As we walk through this world we can do two things that will help us be more like Christ. First, be humble (think more about others than you do yourself). Second, watch what God is doing in other people’s lives. God uses circumstances to mature people; you need to watch and see how they respond to their circumstances. In other words watch what works and learn from their mistakes.
